The Chertsey Cartulary (item 65), possibly the most important medieval manuscript held in Australia due to the fact that it is one of only three extant from the 14th century and the only one held outside the UK, was received infollowing the granting of an export licence by the British Government.

The Chertsey Cartulary relates to St Peter's Benedictine Abbey at Chertsey in the County of Surrey. The Chertsey Cartulary is the only medieval cartulary held in Australia, and one of a very small number held outside Britain. It is probable (but by no means certain) that the Library’s copy is the original from which others were copied.
